Having risen to mid-level prominence within garage circles, fellow Welshmen Benjamin Damage and Doc Daneeka pooled resources in winter 2010 and created a demo entitled ‘Creeper’. Within 24 hours of sending the track to Modeselektor, they had been signed to 50 Weapons. Recorded in Berlin last August, ‘They! Live’ largely stays true to the frenetic percussion and party drops of UK funky, while adopting the stark depth of German techno. A marginally reworked version of the demo is included. Other highlights are the yearning opener ‘No One’ and the euphoric closer ‘Bleach and Penicillin’. An album that is as melancholic as is it banging.
