Brighton four-piece Soft Rocks have been bringing a bonkers-Balearic slant to the (cough!) nu disco scene since 2003. And, at last, they’ve committed their collective comic wit to 10 original tunes. On the opening, ‘We Hunt Buffalo Now’, they come on like David Byrne fronting Gorillaz at their most Monkey-ish, while on ‘Thunder Thunder’, Soft Rocks recall the hazy brilliance of both Bent and Quiet Village. Best of all, every track tells a different tale. The cool tablas of ‘Slowdown’, the strident Human League-like ‘Magic Milk’, and the magical fretwork of ‘Air’ confirm that Soft Rocks deserve a place in your down-tempo collection.
