DROP THE MUSTARD

Where Sound Control, Manchester
When Watch this space
Music Underground house and techno

“DTM was formed from a shared interest in condiments and dance music,” says co-founder Rob. The music policy certainly has plenty of heat. By thinking outside the box and merging techno/house/garage and dub step artists under the same roof; they’ve earned themselves a loyal following of intelligent, youthful ravers.

Tonight is Drop The Mustard’s third birthday, and the line-up might just be their best yet. German duo M.A.N.D.Y. line up alongside Crosstown Rebels’ new house stars Benoit & Sergio, ably supported by George Fitzgerald, Indigo, Richy Ahmed and Alexis Raphael. The three-floor monster that is Sound Control is the perfect setting. Once one of the city’s most popular and respected music shops, its refit as a club allows the shop’s legacy to live on.

Come 1am, George Fitzgerald has got the basement rocking, blistering through a mind-blowing set of techno-infused melodic house and future garage. Take a trip upstairs and you’ll find Benoit & Sergio cranking the party up a notch with their fresh disco synths and irresistible house beats.

But it’s M.A.N.D.Y. who steal the show tonight. Neon squares surround the DJ booth, flashing in time to the hypnotic, thundering grooves. The Berlin duo unleash an arsenal of house and disco, constantly flirting at the edges with techno and electro – a mixture perfectly judged to send the crowd into a frenzy. And once the night at Sound Control finishes, it’s off to the afterparty at South, where the headliners go back-to-back in the small hours. Drop The Mustard certainly cuts it too.
