iDiOSYNC’S 1ST BIRTHDAY

Where Joshua Brooks, 106 Princess Street, Manchester
When Varying Thursdays, monthly
Music House and techno beats

There’s a buzz in the air around Manchester’s Joshua Brooks club. But it’s not your typical student mob of tarted up girls and rowdy lads. Rather, the girls carry themselves well, while the lads spurt out geeky music talk as they all descend on the venue. It’s monthly underground house and tech session iDiOSYNC’s first birthday and, heading into the large, brick-built, cave-like warehouse, they’re hit by a cacophony of sassy tech-house beats. It’s exactly what they want to hear.

Tonight’s headliner is Valencia-based Texan Eric Estornel, formerly best known as producer Maetrik, and now kicking up a storm as Maceo Plex, whose tsunami of nasty, funky, dirty house beats has swept across the scene from his album ‘Life Index’, out now on Crosstown Rebels. The party itself is the brainchild
of two Manchester students, Guy Richards and Eoin Thomas, who’re also resident DJs, and like to think outside the box. “We figured with a Thursday party people can go straight through to the weekend if they want,” says Guy, who’s set the tone nicely DJing as Kym Flamingo with other resident Scott Langford. “It’s just something different that we thought would attract a unique crowd.”

It seems they’ve hit the nail on the head. At just gone 1am Maceo Plex starts to tear the place apart with a thrapping set built predominantly from his own releases, remixes and unreleased material. The crowd explodes, thriving on the energy his music brings, and while they might call themselves iDiOSYNC, the party the lads here have created is anything but daft.
