THE FIELD

On record, The Field is just one man – Stockholm’s Kompakt-signed melodic techno producer Axel Willner – but on stage it’s a full band, with Willner joined by a live drummer and bassist. Together the trio produce a show which plays on the raw rhythms of a club set and the visual stimulus of a live gig far more than any indie band. And the darkened warehouse-cum-art gallery upstairs room of Glasgow’s hipster weekender Electric Frog is the perfect venue for them.

Their set is a revelation. Willner crouches over his laptop, unveiling a set of deep, bass-powered and groove-ridden tracks from his new record ‘Looping State Of Mind’, his musicians matching every beat. The sweat-soaked drummer only gets a break during one short ambient breakdown, then rattles his cymbals as the noise powers once more towards a samba-style build-up. It all adds up to a purely primal experience, The Field lending new dimensions to the concept of the dance/rock crossover.
